Albert Pujols reached another career milestone as the Cardinals beat the Phillies 6-1 at Busch Stadium. Pujols smacked a double in the bottom of the seventh inning for his 1,378th extra-base hit, which now ranks third all-time in MLB history. Corey Dickerson and Lars Nootbaar each chipped in with home runs for St. Louis, and Miles Mikolas got the win after allowing one run over seven-and-a-third innings. The Cards now trail Milwaukee by just two games for first place in the NL Central with a record of 47-and-42. Cardinals begin a home series against the Dodgers tonight.
The Bulls continue Summer League play with a game against the Toronto Raptors today in Las Vegas. The Bulls are coming off a 101-69 loss to the Knicks on Sunday to fall to 1-and-1.
The Chicago Sky tip-off the second half of the season with a game against the Atlanta Dream at the Wintrust Arena tonight. The Sky have won six of their last seven and have the best record in the WNBA at 16-and-6.
The NBA is expected to approve the play-in tournament for the playoffs as a regular part of future seasons. The League is also expected to pass a rule that penalizes the “take a foul” on fast breaks with a free throw and possession of the ball for the offense.
