Four train crossings in Peru are going to be improved. $1.2 million from the Illinois Commerce Commission will be used to install automatic warning lights and gates for trains on the Iowa Interstate Railroad Tracks.

The warning lights and gates will be installed on Peru’s south side on Pine St, Plain St, Putnam St, and Pike St. It’s just before drivers would cross the train tracks and turn onto Water St next to the Illinois River.

The commerce commission is using a total of $3.1 million to improve eleven train crossings in other counties including Bureau, Putnam, Marshall, and Rock Island. It’s supposed to take about a year and a half to complete.
