Michael Kopech gave up four home runs as the White Sox fell to the Twins 8-2 at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Kopech was charged with his sixth loss after surrendering six runs in just four-and-two-thirds innings.  Reese McGuire finished with three hits, and Josh Harrison got his 1000th career hit in the losing effort.  The South-Siders fall to 38-and-41 and are now six-and-a-half games out of first place. 

 

The Sox are getting some good news on the injury front.  Outfielder Eloy Jimenez is expected to be activated from the injured list this week, and catcher Yasmani Grandal will begin a rehab stint with Double-A Birmingham today.

 

Seiya Suzuki remained hot in an 8-3 Cubs win over the Brewers at American Family Field.  Suzuki went two-for-three with a home run and three RBIs in his second start since returning from the injured list.  Rafael Ortega added two hits and two RBIs in the victory. Kyle Hendricks lasted just three innings for the North-Siders before leaving the game with right shoulder soreness. Matt Swarmer got the win out of the bullpen. The Cubs improve to 33-and-48, and will start Adrian Sampson against the Brewers today.

St.Louis Cardinals gave up five runs in the first inning for a 7-1 loss to the Braves in Atlanta.  Andre Pallante surrendered all seven of Atlanta’s runs in just three-and-two-third innings and was tagged with his fourth loss of the season.  Nolan Gorman drove in the Cards’ only run in the top of the first.  The Cardinals trail the Brewers by three games for first place in the NL Central with a 44-and-39 record.  Miles Mikolas starts for the Red Birds against the Braves tonight.

 

The Chicago Sky return to action when they take on the Minnesota Lynx at the Target Center today.  The Sky are on a five-game winning streak and have the best record in the WNBA at 15-and-5.

 

 Some results at Wimbledon in tennis,  On the men’s side, top-seeded Novak Djokovic [ jow-kuh-vuhch ] battled back from a two-set deficit to beat 10th-seeded Jannik Sinner. Cameron Norrie also punched his ticket to the semi-finals after taking down David Goffin in a five-set thriller.  On the women’s side, Tatjana Maria made history with her win over Jule Niemeier as she became the oldest first-time Grand Slam semi finalist in the history of the Open.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is pulling out all the stops in an attempt to keep the Bears in city limits.  Lightfoot is reportedly exploring the possibility of adding a dome to Soldier Field.  Lightfoot has been fighting to keep the Bears in Chicago for over a year, but the team has made steps towards moving the team to Arlington Heights.
