The Ottawa Fire Department is pretty much out of the non-emergency medical transfer business. And the city of Streator wants to start its own ambulance service. So Ottawa’s city council has approved selling an ambulance to Streator for $50,000.
Ottawa City Commissioner James Less says the transfer ambulance is mostly just sitting unused since OSF Healthcare is hiring a private company for that kind of ride.
Less says losing that former revenue generator isn’t such a big financial hit anymore, since revenue not gained isn’t needed to pay for staff on the unneeded ambulance.
