The White Sox gave up four runs in the top of the tenth in their 6-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field. The South-Siders forced extra innings when they scored the game-tying run on Yoan Moncada’s RBI single in the seventh, but they hit into a triple play before they could add any more runs in the inning.
Jose Abreu hit a solo home run in the losing effort, while Joe Kelly was tagged with his second loss in relief. The 38-and-40 White Sox are in third place in the AL Central, and they trail the Twins by five-and-a-half games.
The Cubs were walked-off by the Brewers in a 5-2 ten-inning loss at American Family Field. Scott Effross gave up a three-run home run in the bottom of the tenth to give the game to Milwaukee. Effross was charged with his fourth loss out of the pen, and David Robertson blew his fourth save after failing to lock down a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth.
Seiya Suzuki returned to the line-up after spending over a month on the injured list. Suzuki had two hits, including an inside-the-park home run, while Nelson Velazquez launched the first home run of his career. The 32-and-48 Cubs send Kyle Hendricks to the mound against the Brewers tonight.
The Cardinals lost to the Atlanta Braves 6-3. Starter Dakota Hudson surrendered five runs in the second to put the Cardinals in an early 6-0 hole. Hudson picked up his fifth loss after giving up all six Atlanta runs in just four innings of work. Juan Yepez and Conner Capel each went deep in the losing effort. St. Louis drops to 44-and-38 with the loss.
The Cardinals are now three games back of Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central. Andre Pallante starts for the Red Birds when they take on the Braves again tonight. The Cards also purchased the contract of veteran catcher Austin Romine yesterday. The 33-year-old has been in the MLB since 2011.
