The White Sox begin a weekend series against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park.  The Sox are in third place in the AL Central, and trail first-place Minnesota by five-and-a-half games.  Lance Lynn is scheduled to start for the Southsiders. 

 

The Cubs rattled off 23 hits in a 15-7 win over the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field.  Patrick Wisdom went three-for-six with a pair of home runs and six RBIs and Christopher Morel finished the game with five hits, including a home run.  PJ Higgins also went deep in the victory, and Kyle Hendricks picked up the win after giving up just two runs in six innings of work.  

 

The only bad news from the rout was that infielder David Bote had to leave the game with shoulder soreness after colliding with Nico Hoerner in the fourth inning.  The Cubs improved to 30-and-46 with the win, and will send Adrian Sampson to the mound against the Boston Red Sox today.  

In other Cubs news, the team placed outfielder Jason Heyward on the 10-day injured list before yesterday’s contest. 

 

The Cardinals start a weekend series with the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park tonight.  The Cards trail the Brewers by one game in the race for first place in the NL Central.   

 

Some results from the grass courts at Wimbledon.  On the men’s side, Rafael Nadal and American Taylor Fritz advanced with second round wins. On the women’s side, 18-year-old Coco Gauff dominated in straight sets to cruise to the third round.  

 

The Chicago Sky will host the Phoenix Mercury in a re-match of the 2021 WNBA Finals at Wintrust Arena tomorrow.

 

The Fire will try to stay hot when they take on the San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS at PayPal Park on Sunday.

NASCAR is set for some road racing at The Kwik Trip 250 at Road America in Plymouth, Wisconsin on Sunday.

 

The world’s most famous bicycle race begins today.  The Tour de France will begin this year in Copenhagen, and will wind its way through France for 21 days before ending in Paris on July 24th.

 

Two of the Pac-12’s biggest programs are leaving the conference.  USC and UCLA have been notified that their application to join the Big Ten has been accepted.  The schools will begin play in the conference in 2024.
