Cong. Darin LaHood says he is humbled and honored to have the support of the voters in the new Illinois 16th Congressional District. He beat three other Republican challengers by getting two-thirds of the votes.

While traveling around the new district, he says voters are dealing with a lot of frustration.

He says he will continue to support more Republicans so they can take back control of the House of Representatives. He also says that he will continue to focus on his record of bringing Midwestern values to Congress. He says forty percent of the district is new, so his campaign has been trying to focus on areas in northern Illinois to talk about his background and what he wants to continue to do in Congress.

He is currently running unopposed, but Democrats have until July to decide if they want someone to run in the district. The 16th district covers parts of southern LaSalle County.

Walt Peters, who was one of the candidates, says he congratulates LaHood for being the Republican nominee. Peters says he will vote for LaHood in November.
