The vote totals in the Somonauk-Leland school unification referendum are 964 no and 877 yes. It would have taken a majority of voters in each district to pass.
Leland School Board President Claire Anderson says the districts have been working together on many things and will continue.
Anderson’s waiting for a more detailed election canvass and certification to concede. If there will be another referendum on it, it’ll have to wait two years. She’s grateful to a “committee of ten” people from the two districts who’ve been working out unification logistics.
