Slow progress continues with downtown LaSalle buildings

Some LaSalle City Council members are still frustrated with what little has been done with the Kaskaskia Hotel and Maytag Building. CL Enterprises is trying to turn the Maytag Building into a restaurant and redo the Kaskaskia, so it has shops and living spaces.

Nathan Watson with CL Enterprise says the company is still working toward a new plan to improve the Kaskaskia’s hotel tower, some of the roof, and an apartment building behind the building.

But Mayor Jeff Grove says he’s tired of all the talk.

Watson says he agrees with the council that the contractor they first hired should have been fired long before they were. But he says the company agrees with the council’s goal of completing both projects. He says CL Enterprises has spent millions of dollars because the company believes in LaSalle. He still says the pandemic caused the staffing and supply problems with the contractor.

After questions raised by Alderman Jim Bacidore, Watson ended up leaving the meeting. He said anyone with any questions can contact him at his office.

Alderman Tom Ptak said Bacidore needs to stop looking in the past and look toward the future.
