If voters in the Somonauk and Leland school districts approve, the school boards and administrators will begin working on combining the districts into one. Supt. Jay Streicher at Somonauk says it’ll take a year.
School officials have made the case for becoming one district at public hearings since the winter. They say combining resources will help all the schools in both districts run more efficiently.
This is on the ballots for voting that ends Tuesday. While it’s mainly a primary election, there are non-partisan referendum only ballots available in the Leland and Somonauk school districts for those who don’t want to identify as Democrats or Republicans.
