Streator City Council approved purchasing two ambulances for their city-owned ambulance service. It’s going to cost about $400,000 for both. City Manager David Plyman says the ambulances will not have been built in the same year. But it’s done on purpose.
Most of the city council was not if favor last month to purchase the ambulances. Mayor Tara Bedei says she thinks the commissioners wanted more information about a rate for proposal before the money was spent.
The city is tasked with purchasing equipment in order to provide ambulance service. Plyman will also be working with American Medical Response to create a contract so the company can provide the staff for it. The city is looking to run their own ambulance service after private company AMT told the city council it was costing too much to continue running. They were looking for a contract that would cost the city about $700,000 a year.
