The White Sox try to extend their winning streak to four games when they visit the Houston Astros tonight at Minute Maid Park.  The South-Siders are coming off a three-game sweep at the Detroit Tigers. 

Lucas Giolito will take the mound tonight for the Sox.

The Chicago Cubs lost to the San Diego Padres 6-4 at Wrigley Field.  Christopher Morel hit a home run in the losing effort, while Matt Swarmer gave up four runs in three-and-two-thirds innings and was tagged with the loss.  

The Cubs have now lost ten games in a row to fall to 23-and-40.  Today, they begin a series against the Atlanta Braves, who have won 14 straight.  Keegan Thompson takes the mound in the first game of the series.

 

The St Louis Cardinals will look to break a three game road skid tonight in Boston when they take on the Red Sox. Adam Wainwright is scheduled to take the mound for the Cards to begin the three game road series.

 

Notre Dame is in Omaha to begin the College World Series.  The Fighting Irish will take on Texas in their first game tonight.  The Irish will take on either Texas A&M or Oklahoma in their second game on Sunday.

 

The Golden State Warriors are 2022 NBA Champions.  Golden State defeated the Celtics 103-90 in Game Six in Boston.  Stephen Curry scored 34 points to lead the Warriors to their fourth championship in the last eight seasons.   It’s the seventh title in franchise history for Golden State.  Jaylen Brown scored 34 points as Boston lost in its first NBA Finals appearance since 2010.

 

The Warriors Stephen Curry was awarded the NBA Finals MVP.  Curry earned the honor for the first time in his career and has won his 4th championship with Golden State. 

 

The Avalanche are looking to take a commanding lead in the Stanley Cup Final.  Colorado hosts the Tampa Bay Lightning for Game Two tomorrow night in Denver.  The Avalanche came away with a 4-3 win in Game One.  

 

The Chicago Sky look for their third win in a row when they take on the Atlanta Dream at the Wintrust Arena tonight. The Sky is in third place in the WNBA with a 9-and-4 record following a 88-86 win over the New York Liberty on Sunday.   

 

Chicago Fire  returns to MLS play for the first time since May 28th when they take on the DC United at Soldier Field tomorrow. The Fire are in last place in the Eastern Conference with two wins, five draws, and seven losses. 

 

Over in the PGA, Adam Hadwin is leading the way at the US Open after the first round at The Country Club in Brookline after shooting a four under par.

 

And it was announced yesterday,  Due to low enrollment in the Sandwich High School football program, they will not have varsity football this fall.

The Indians have only six seniors and six juniors who returned to play varsity football this fall; last season they finished with an 0-9 record.

The high school stated that the underclassman numbers are on the rise, and are  pursuing a schedule that would allow freshmen and sophomores to continue with their season.
