The White Sox lost to the Texas Rangers 8-6 in 12 innings at Guaranteed Rate Field.  After giving up three runs in the top of the 11th, The Sox came back to tie the game with RBIs from Seby Zavala, Danny Mendick, and AJ Pollock.  However, Matt Foster gave up two runs in the top of the next inning and the South-Siders weren’t to make a comeback. To make matters worse, Michael Kopech was injured during the start and had to leave the game in the first inning. 

 

The Chicago Cubs gave up 17 hits in an 18-4 loss to the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.  The Cubs gave up ten runs in the first three innings, and Keegan Thompson was charged with his second loss after surrendering three earned runs and two unearned runs in just two-thirds of an inning.  Ian Happ was the North-Siders lone bright spot, going three-for-three with a triple and a home run.  The Cubs are now 23-and-26, and will send Justin Steele to the mound against the Padres tonight at Wrigley Field. 

 

The Cubs announced yesterday that Seiya Suzuki’s return to the lineup will be delayed because of an injury to his left ring finger. In other news, the Cubs placed pitcher Wade Miley on the 15-day injured list on Saturday and activated pitcher Sean Newcomb from the IL yesterday. 

 

The St.Louis Cardinals fell just short in a 7-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth when Juan Yepez hit a two run shot with two outs, but Albert Pujols struck out on three pitches to end the game.  Nolan Arenado also went deep in the losing effort, and Dakota Hudson was tagged with the loss after surrendering six runs in seven innings of work.  The Cards send Zack Thompson to the mound against the Pirates tonight. 

 

Notre Dame is heading to the College World Series.  The Fighting Irish beat number one Tennessee 7-3 in the Super Regional yesterday. The Fighting Irish will play in the College World Series in Omaha later this week. 

 

The NBA Finals resumes with a pivotal Game Five between the Warriors and Celtics in San Francisco tonight.  The Warriors are coming off a crucial Game Four win in Boston to even the series at two games apiece.  The winner of Game Five will be one win away from an NBA Championship.

 

The Chicago Sky beat the New York Liberty 88-86 in a thriller at The Barclays Center. The Sky remains in third place in the WNBA with a 9-and-4 record.   

 

Over in the PGA, Rory MAc-Ilroy is celebrating another win at the RBC Canadian Open in Toronto.

 

Daniel Suarez picked up the first win of his career at the NASCAR Toyota SaveMart 350 at the Sonoma Raceway in California. 

  

Final results in high school State Championship baseball: Nazareth Academy defeated Glenwood in the Class 3A Title and Edwardsville won the Class 4A title over Mundelein.

 

State Championship results in softball: Lemont defeated Saint Ignatius in Class 3A and Saint Charles North won the Class 4A Title over Marist.
