The White Sox managed just four hits during a 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Guaranteed Rate Field. Johnny Cueto fell to 0-and-3 after giving up three runs in six innings of work.  Jake Burger gave the Southsiders their only run with a solo home run in the fifth. In other team news, the White Sox claimed reliever Parker Markel from the A’s yesterday. 

 

Rain postponed last night’s game between the Cubs and Orioles in Baltimore.  It was scheduled to be the final game of a brief two-game series.  Instead, the game will now be made up on August 18th.  The North-Siders open up a series with the Yankees in the Bronx tomorrow night.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals gave up 18 hits in an 11-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.  Packy Naughton lasted just one-and-a-third innings and gave up four runs and was charged with his second loss of the season.  Tyler O’Neill had a home run and drove in all three of the Cards’ runs.  St. Louis falls to 32-and-25, and will send Miles Mikolas to the mound against the Rays this afternoon. 

Nolan Arenado may miss a couple of games due to a knee injury.  The Cardinals third baseman injured his right knee when he was hit by a pitch during Tuesday night’s loss to the Rays.

 

The Celtics defeated the Golden State Warriors 116-100 in Game Three of the NBA Finals in Boston.  Stephen Curry led all scorers with 31 points in Golden State’s second loss of the series.  Jaylen Brown led the Celtics in scoring with 27 points as he, Jayson Tatum, and Marcus Smart all had at least 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists. The Warriors will be looking to even the series at two games apiece in Game Four on Friday night.

 

The NHL Eastern Conference Final series is heading back to New York for Game Five as the Rangers are hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at Madison Square Garden.  The best-of-seven series is tied at two games apiece after the Lightning earned a pair of victories in Tampa. The winner of the Eastern Conference Final series will face the Western Conference champion Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Final. 

 

Over in the PGA, the Tour is heading north of the border for this week’s RBC Canadian Open at St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto.  Rory McIlroy will be looking to defend his title after winning the tournament the last time it was held during the 2019 season.
