Bond issues for Riordan Pool and fire truck replacement approved

Ottawa City Commissioner James Less objected, but the rest of the City Council approved borrowing almost $5.2 million to rebuild Riordan Pool. Less says the city should see if the new YMCA pool meets the community’s needs. Construction on the building it will be in hasn’t started. Less suggests the city pay the Y every year so residents who aren’t members can swim.

The argument for rebuilding Riordan is that people want an outdoor pool on hot days.

For another bond issue, the City Council unanimously approved borrowing $1.5 million to replace a fire truck. The Ottawa Fire Department needs to replace a tower truck that’s 26 years old. It could take a year to get the new truck.
