LaSalle County Nursing Home financial losses could cause future closure

Losses in the LaSalle County Nursing Home’s budget could cause it to be closed in the future. County Board Finance Committee Chairman Brian Dose says the home lost three million dollars last year and has already lost $1.5 million this year.

The committee is looking to hire a consulting firm to find out if the nursing home is still profitable. Committee Member Curt Faber says it’s more than just a financial problem; there is also a problem with not enough people staying in the home. He says hopes the consultant can give the committee some advice.

Although he also did say that he’s not sure if the advice would work. Chairman Dose says with the upcoming election for county board members, this decision on whether to close the nursing home or not could have an impact. He says residents will want to know about a consultants study.

He says the county could raise taxes to try and bring more money in, although residents would have to vote on it. It’s also too late to put anything new on upcoming election ballots anyway. The committee recommended that other county board members watch what they talked about at the meeting on the county’s Youtube Channel so they could trying and give some ideas.

The discussion about the consultant and the nursing home starts at 34:48 and goes until 1:32:32.
