A bigger grandstand, new press box, and new seats will be installed at Schweickert Stadium at Veterans Park in Peru. Stadium improvement company Dant Clayton will expand the grandstand and move the press box and Carroll Seating will install 577 new seats.

It’s costing the city about $854,000. $500,000 is coming from a one-million-dollar donation from the Schweickert Family, but $354,000 is coming from the city’s general and utility fund. City Engineer Eric Carls says inflation and supply chain issues are still causing problems.

He also says inflation costs are affecting other items like a new backstop and netting to protect fans from getting hit by a foul balls. He says there has been a 100% increase and the city is looking for different bidders.

He says the other projects the stadium needs could cost between $1.2 and $1.3 million. He also says the stadium could be used for other purposes beside hosting two and half months of prospect league baseball. He says there have been talks about using it as a small concert venue, although nothing is official.
