The County Board Public Safety Committee doesn’t see it this way, but LaSalle County Emergency Management Agency Director Fred Moore wishes he had an incident command bus. Two big fires in the last week convinced him of their worth. He had nowhere private to talk with emergency service commanders about the boat fire in Seneca. And it took a while for a bus borrowed from another county to arrive at the Grand Bear fire command scene.
The $500,000 price tag bothered the committee. Moore asked for permission yesterday to apply for a grant to buy it. The county’s share would be $125,000. A motion died without a second after committee members questioned the cost, how often it would be used, and maintenance.
