A seventeen year police officer will become one of the Peru Police Department’s next sergeants. Officer Matt Peters will take over after current Sgt. Rick Piscia (PEE-sha) retires in June. Peters says his job will have him work a late shift to help other patrol officers.

He’s from the Illinois Valley and was raised in the Granville area in Putnam County. He says he’s been a police officer since 2005 when he was hired by the Mendota Police Department and then came to Peru in 2008. He says he wants to help make sure that the police officers will be the best that they can be while on the job.
