Yesterday on WCMY, at the Elgin Class 3A Sectional baseball semi-final, Marquette rallied to beat Chicago Hope Academy 4-3. Sam Mitre nailed a single to center with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh for the victory. Winning Pitcher Logan Nelson Blasted a homerun for the Crusaders who now advance to Saturday’s championship game.
Marquette will face the winner of Wednesday’s rain delayed contest between Putnam County and their host Harvest Christian, that game is now scheduled today at 2pm.
Results In the LP Class 3A Regional, the Ottawa Pirates season ended with a 3-1 loss to Rock Island. Rylan Dorsey pitched 6 innings allowing three hits with 4 strikeouts.
Morris pulled off the upset and defeated their host the Cavaliers 8-2. In the loss, Julius Sanchez pitched 3 innings allowing six runs with five strikeouts, Jack Sheri belted a two-run single.
The Galesburg Class 3A Regional has been postponed until Friday due to the wet weather. Streator will begin their postseason taking on Geneseo.
In Softball at the Dwight Class 1A Sectional, Newark got a big win over Walther Christian 13-3. Taylor Kruser pitched 6 innings allowing 3 runs and struck out 10 batters. The Lady Norsemen will now face Woodland in th eChampionship on Saturday.
The Seneca High School bass fishing team qualified for the IHSA State Finals at Carlyle Lake with a third-place finish at sectionals (hauling in 11.86 lbs of bass), At the finals, the Irish placed 22nd of 75 state qualifying teams after boating two fish weighing 2 lbs. 9 oz.
The IHSA State Finals were cut from one day to two due to poor weather, with catch totals down across the board and 36 boats did not even catch a fish.
The Seneca team included Dominick Griffin, Forest Stuedemann, Keegan Murphy and Jayden Brassal.
