Yesterday’s results in softball
At the Morris Class 3A Regional, Ottawa outscored Plano 7-0 to advance to the championship on Saturday. Pitcher McKenzie Oslanzi allowed one run, walked three and finished with 17 strikeouts.
At the Geneseo Class 3A Regional, Streator season ended with a loss to their host Geneseo 3-0. Jaelyn Blakemore allowed five hits, no earned runs and pitched three strikeouts in the loss.
In Softball, at the Class 1A Dwight Sectional semifinal, Woodland defeated Illinois Luthern 10-3. Shae Simons went 7 innings allowing 2 earned runs, 8 hits and struck out 10 batters. The Lady Warriors will now compete in the program’s first sectional championship on Saturday.
Yesterday on WCMY, The White Sox gave up 16 runs in the first five innings of their 16-3 loss to the Red Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. Dylan Cease gave up seven runs in three innings of work to get tagged with his second loss. Jose Abreu hit a home run in the losing effort as the White Sox fell to 21-and-21.
Frank Schwindel had a big night at the plate. Schwindel went three-for-five with a pair of home runs and three RBI in the Cubs 11-4 win over the Reds in Cincinnati. Marcus Stroman earned the win after allowing two runs over five innings of work.
The Cubs have won each of their last three games to improve to 18-and-24. Kyle Hendricks gets the start for the North-Siders against Cincinnati tonight.
The St.Louis Cardinals couldn’t slow down the Blue Jays hitters in an 8-1 loss at Busch Stadium. Toronto was already up 8-0 by the time the Cardinals scored its first run in the bottom of the seventh. The Cards are off today before starting a series with the Milwaukee Brewers tomorrow.
The Chicago Sky used a big third quarter to beat the Indiana Fever 95-90 at Wintrust Arena. The Sky are now 4-and-2, and they take on Las Vegas on Saturday.
In the NBA Playoffs, The Mavericks took down the Warriors 119-109 in Game Four in Dallas. With the win, the Mavericks now trail the series 3-1.
Out East, the Heat and Celtics will meet in a pivotal Game Five in Miami tonight. The series is tied at two games apiece.
Over in the NHL, The New York Rangers evened its second round series with the Carolina Hurricanes at two games apiece after a 4-1 win at Madison Square Garden.
Edmonton now has a commanding 3-1 series lead after picking up a 5-3 victory over the Calgary Flames.
Tonight, the Colorado Avalanche will be looking to clinch a spot in the Western Conference Finals when they host the St. Louis Blues in Game Five.
