Sewer repairs are being done all across Ottawa. The company doing them doesn’t have to dig them up. It puts a plastic liner inside the pipes to seal them.
Performance Pipelining was doing that yesterday on Prairie St. just east of Columbus St. City Engineer Tom Duttlinger says the company has an $8.5 million contract to do that in more than 150 places across the city this year to seal sanitary sewer pipes from storm runoff. It’s been working since the fall, but work on the biggest pipes started a week-and-a-half ago.
People driving by see equipment at the manholes and steam coming out of a pipe. There’s also a hot plastic smell in the air.
