Saturday’s Marquette Class 1A regional championship in baseball between the Crusaders and Newark was suspended due to the rain. The game will resume today at 4:30 with Newark leading 2-0 in the bottom of the 3rd. Marquette is at bat with a man on first with one out. At the Somonauk Class 1A Regional Championship in baseball, Putnam County is taking on Yorkville Christian.
In softball, at the St Bede Class 1A Regional championship. The Lady Bruins will host Putnam County.

In softball, at the Class 1A Newark Regional championship, Marquette fought hard but fell short to their host the Lady Norseman 2-1. Danica Peshia belted a sacrifice fly to center field for the winning run. Kaylee Killelea pitched six innings allowing just four walks and striking out 8 batters in the loss.
At Class 2A Manteno Regional, Seneca rallied late in the game but came up short to their host Manteno 5-4. Allie Arwood finished the season with a single, triple and two RBIs, Zoe Hougas had a single and a triple.
At the Dwight Class 1A Regional, Woodland defeated Serena 12-3 to win the Regional Championship. Shae Simons pitched 7 innings allowing 3 runs with 6 strikeouts. Kortney Harms had two hits with 4 RBIs, Ella Sibert had three hits, one RBI and three runs scored. For the Lady Huskers, Jenna Setchell ended the season with two hits and two RBIs.
In Baseball
At the Class 2A Braidwood Regional Semifinal, Seneca ended their season with a loss to Reed-Custer 10-7. Despite the tough loss, Matt Cruise went over 5 innings throwing 10 strikeouts and at the plate had a double and an RBI. Tyler Sulzberger finished the season blasting a homerun and 3 runs batted in.
Streator finished the regular season with a 6-5 road loss to Morris. Pitchers Cooper Spears, Parker Phillis and Cole Martin combined for 13 strikeouts. On offense, Sean McGurk singled and had a double.
In the Class 1A State Championship at Eastern Illinois University. Seneca’s team of Clara Bruno, Anna Bruno, Evelyn O’Connor and Emma Smith claimed the championship in the 400 relay event.
Newark’s Meagan Williams placed 1st in the long jump and triple jump. Williams also finished 3rd in the 100 hurdles. It was also a big day for fellow Lady Norsemen Kiara Wesseh who finished 2nd in the high jump and placed 3rd in the 100 meter dash.
