Ottawa Elementary School teachers have a new collective bargaining contract. Supt. Cleve Threadgill says it’s a four year contract with a five percent raise in the first year.

In the second year it will be four percent, and then 3.5% for the next two years. Threadgill says one of the goals in this contract is to make the district more competitive. He says the district used to be one of the top two districts, but after recently the district has fallen to the middle of the pack.

He says the tax rate for the district will not be going up.

He says before this contract, teachers were getting less than one percent of the base.  But the district didn’t have to cut any programs for students.
