An Indiana man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Thursday. A jury found 30-year old Darion Coleman guilty of aggravated vehicular hijacking in March. During sentencing, Assistant State’s Attorney Jeremiah Adams played video of Coleman’s arrest on Interstate 80 after he was caught going over 100 miles per hour in a construction zone.

He says after being arrested, Coleman decided to stay at a hotel after police found out he didn’t’ have a drivers license. He says after that, Coleman went to the Clocktower gas station in Peru, pulled a 17-year old woman out of her car, and ran her over with it while he stole it. Public Defender Ryan Hamer says it wasn’t his clients intention to run the woman over. She suffered a broken pelvis and foot.

Coleman would later ditch the car in Ladd and steal another car before being arrested in Montgomery County. Judge Cynthia Raccuglia says the evidence against Coleman was overwhelming and there was no reason for mercy. Adams says the outcome was exactly what the prosecution wanted to see.
