New Marseilles boat launch officially opened

The Marseilles community boat launch has opened. The city council, representatives from Nucor Tubular, and Marseilles firefighters held a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday in the 1100 block of Broadway St.

Mayor Jim Hollenbeck says the project was thirty years in the making. He also says the launch will be used by the fire department.

He says the city received a $200,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to help build it.

The land was originally owned by Marseilles Elementary School. Nucor obtained the land and the city traded fourteen acres for the launch. Hollenbeck says he hopes people will enjoy the boat launch, keep it clean, and will be safe.
