During a virtual press conference Friday, Republican St. Rep David Welter of Morris says the buck stops with Gov. Pritzker when it comes to the COVID-19 deaths of thirty-six veterans at the LaSalle Veterans Home. He reiterated that this is fatal mismanagement, and there needs to be more accountability.
He says administrators like Deputy Gov. Sol Flores lied when she testified during a committee hearing last year, and he wants her and other members of Pritzker’s administration held responsible. He says when Pritzker blamed Republicans for the outbreak, it was disgraceful to the families of the veterans.
He says the families of the veterans have been lied to. He says he was getting updates from a family inside the home because he works with someone whose father lives there.
He says if he did not file a resolution to investigate what happened, the Pritzker administration would have swept it under the rug.
