Two of the area’s Republican lawmakers say Gov. Pritzker and his political appointees misled everyone about what happened in the COVID outbreak at the LaSalle veterans home. St. Sen. Sue Rezin of Morris says the audit that came out Thursday tells the story of a governor who fatally mismanaged the state’s response. She and St. Rep. David Welter of Morris say the truth has come out and Pritzker must be held accountable. Both want legislative hearings.
Ottawa Democratic St. Rep. Lance Yednock says the audit reveals disappointing breakdowns of communication and protocol that led to more sickness and death. He thanks Auditor General Frank Mautino for going over thousands of documents. While Yednock is disappointed that the state agencies handling the outbreak weren’t better coordinated, he says there were people trying to do the right thing and they deserve recognition.
