The Ottawa Tree Board celebrated the 150th year of Arbor Day by planting a tree at Central Intermediate School Friday. Chairmen Brent Barron spoke in front of students next to the baseball field along with other local officials.

Barron says the White Oak Tree that was planted is special, because it’s the state tree of Illinois. He says in 1973, 900,000 voted to make that type of tree to be the state tree.

Barron says it’s the 24th year the tree board has planted a new tree for Arbor Day. Students were also given a small tree to plant their backyard.
