Buses, garbage trucks, delivery vans, and other heavy vehicles aren’t allowed to use the Sycamore St. bridge in Marseilles. A letter City Engineer Mike Etscheid recently sent to City Hall says an inspector found deterioration that could require the nine-ton weight limit to be lowered. He says nothing bigger than a car or SUV should use the bridge.
City Hall says it’s acting on that advice, although the Illinois Department of Transportation will have the final say. Companies that drive heavy vehicles in that area have been told about the problem. The city is working on replacing the bridge.
