1930 – 2022
Joan (Mitchell) Tuftie, 92, of Earlville, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at the Mueller Funeral Home, Ottawa with Rev. Denise Rode, Pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Earlville, officiating. Burial will be private on Monday at Freedom Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Joan was born on April 4, 1930 in Ottawa to Joseph and Virginia (Cavanaugh) Mitchell. She married Donald Tuftie on February 26, 1949 in the Utica Baptist Church. Joan worked at Joe Mitchell’s livestock sales barn as a bookkeeper and retired from District 3 Illinois Department of Transportation after more than 22 years of service. She was a member of the Earlville Country Club and the Waltham Curling Club. Joan enjoyed golfing, bridge, curling, bird watching and was an avid Bulls fan.
She is survived by her husband, Don; her three sons, Gregory (Donna) Tuftie of Oak Forest, Randy (Nancy) Tuftie of Marseilles and Steve (Diana) Tuftie of Harding; four grandchildren, Amanda Schmitz, Erica Gutesha, Susan Tuftie and Joshua Stillwell; and five great-grandchildren, Autumn Schmitz, Landon Schmitz, Jake Engel, Trey Stillwell and Myah Stillwell.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Greg, Randy and Steve Tuftie, Joshua Stillwell, Jake Engel, and Blake Penoyer honorary pallbearers will be, Susan Tuftie, Myah Stillwell, Erica Gutesha and Amanda Schmitz.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a charity to be determined at a later date.
