The estimated cost of a new wastewater treatment plant in Oglesby is $16.8 million. The city already raised sewer rates to help pay for it, but City Commissioner Jason Curran is starting the search for state and federal grants. He’d like to take those rates back down.

Oglesby has an agreement on the construction timeline with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The agency says the city has to upgrade to stay in compliance with pollution controls. Last night, the City Council put on file an agreement to hire a design firm for less than $17,000.
