The founder of the Redneck Fishing tournament in Bath, IL was inducted into the Illinois Outdoor Hall of Fame earlier this month. Betty DeFord started the fishing tournament to try and remove the invasive Asian carp from the Illinois River.
DeFord says there is also another reason why the tournament has only made a small dent in the population for a couple of reasons. One is because of how often the fish spawn. The other is because of the lack of natural predators.
She also says that there is an area near the chute where the fish spawn three for four times a year. She was a Hall of Fame winner for the Illinois Conservation Foundation in September last year.
