High School baseball 

Marquette were winners at Masinelli Field over Bishop McNamara 12-2 in 6 innings. For the Crusaders, Beau Ewers had three hits and drove in three runs and Logan Nelson nailed a  two-run triple. Aiden Thompson pitched a complete game with a strong performance.

 

Ottawa won at Rochelle 6-5 in an Interstate 8 matchup. Rylan Dorsey  was on the mound for 6 innings allowing 2 runs and 9 strikeouts.

 

Varsity Softball

Ottawa won on the road at Sycamore 13-6. Ryleigh Stehl singled twice, homered in the seventh and drove in 4 runs for the Lady Pirates. McKenzie Oslanzi and Maura Condon combined for 7 strikeouts in the victory.

 

Marquette lost to their host Annawan 5-1. Kaylee Killelea pitched 6 innings with 2 strikeouts and on offense, Killelea had two hits and an RBI to lead the Lady Crusaders on offense.

 

Woodland won big at Midland 11-1. Kortney Harms pitched a complete game with 6 strikeouts in the Lady Warriors win.

 

The Streator boys tennis team were winners at Mendota. Match winners for the Bulldogs, Davey Rashid and Ryan Beck in singles and the team of Cooper Wahl and Brenden Christiansen in doubles.

 

The Ottawa girls soccer team shutout their rival LP 2-0 at King Field. Yesenia Leon and Gabi Krueger eached scored a goal for the Lady Pirates.

 

The Streator girls track team placed 2nd at the Pontiac girls meet. Winners for the Lady Bulldogs were Claire Durdan in the 3200 meter run, Marissa Vickers in the triple jump and Abby Pierce in the 100 meter dash and the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. 

 

Elsewhere in sports

It’s Opening Day at Wrigley Field.  The Cubs begin the regular-season this afternoon against the Milwaukee Brewers.  Kyle Hendricks will get the ball for the Northsiders.  The Brewers will counter with fellow right-hander Corbin Burnes.

 

It’s Opening Day at Busch Stadium.  The Cardinals begin the regular-season hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates this afternoon.  Adam Wainwright will get the start for the Cardinals.  The Pirates will counter with JT Brubaker.

 

The White Sox will open up their season in Motown tomorrow. The Sox begin the year in Detroit against the Tigers.  Lucas Giolito will take the mound opposite Detroit lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. Tune in tomorrow for the pre-game at 11:30 here on 935 1430 WCMY.

 

The Chicago Bulls’ struggles continue after a 117-94 home loss to the Boston Celtics.  DeMar DeRozan had a team-high 16 points for the Bulls, who remained sixth in the East. The Bulls host the Hornets tomorrow.

 

The Blackhawks continue their five-game homestand tonight against the Seattle Kraken.  The Hawks enter tonight second to last in the Central Division.

 

Over in the PGA, the 86th edition of The Masters at Augusta National begins today.  Tiger Woods is making his return to play after suffering serious injuries in a car crash back in 2021. Hideki Matsuyama is defending his title after winning last year’s tournament. The Masters is set to get underway this morning, but weather could cause a delay with rain in the forecast.
