Marquette defeated their host Roanoke-Benson 6-0. For the Crusaders, Logan Nelson gave a strong performance at the plate earning a homer, a double, a single and triple. Taylor Waldron pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
Streator won on the road at Peotone 5-2. The Bulldogs Parker Phillis went 5 innings with 13 strikeouts and Jake Luckey closed out the win with 3 strikeouts.
Seneca held on at home to beat Henry 6-5. For the Irish, pitchers Matt Cruise and Paxton Giertz gave a solid performance in the victory.
Woodland defeated Midland 8-0. Carl Sass took the mound and finished with 7 strikeouts in the Warrior’s victory.
Somonauk won at home over Indian Creek 2-0. Brenden Roberts came in to pitch over 3 innings and struckout 9 batters.
Newark won at Hiawatha 13-1 and Plano were winners at home over Earlville 9-2.
Varsity Softball
Seneca dominated at home over Henry 15-1 in 5 innings. Pitchers Alyssa Zellers and Taya Roe combined for 5 innings with 5 strikeouts and Madi Mino blasted a homer for the Lady Irish.
Streator defeated their host Peotone 7-6. Emma Augustine pitched for the Lady Bulldogs and finished with 6 strikeouts.
Newark won big over Hiawatha 12-0. Highlights for the Lady Norsemen were Kodi Rizzo pitching six innings with no-hits and 12 strikeouts and Danica Peshia and Kailey Wohead each nailed a homerun in the win.
Track and field
Marquette High School competed at the Bureau Valley Season Opener. The boys squad finished in 2nd place and the girls team finished in 3rd.
Winners for the Crusaders: Caden Eller in the high jump and long jump. Jurnee Reed in the 100 meter dash. Reed, Kukendall, Pete McGrath and Maclane Rinearson in the 100 and 200 relay. Kuykendall, Reed, McGrath and Eller in the 400 relay.
Lady Crusader winners: Maggie Jewett in the 800 meters, Mary Jo Lecthenberg in the high jump. Kelsey Quinn, Maddy Howard, Morgan Nelson and Lindsey Kuykendall in the 200 relay and Lechtenberg, Jewett, Keely and Morgan Nelson in the 800 relay,
The Ottawa team finished in 2nd place at Rochelle in a triangular event
Winners for the Pirates: in the girls division, Krisee Clark in both the shot put and discus, Eva Heimsoth in the 800 meters, Joey Siena for the 300 hurdles and the team of Heimsoth, Gianna Corsolini. Sara Meyer, Kendra Martin in the 800 relay.
For the boys, The team of Liam Tipple, Oliver Ruvalcaba, Cole Smelko, Aron Serna in the 800 relay
Streator also finished in 2nd place at the Princeton triangular contest. Event winners for the Bulldogs were Kody Danko in the 800 and 1600 meters, Aiden Kearfott in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Chance Robart in the 400 and the team of Robart, Danko, Isaiah Dembo and Ryan Seaton in the 400 relay.

Ottawa Pirate graduate Michael Hermosillo hit a three-run homer in the first inning but the Cubs went on to lose to the Rangers 11-5 in their spring finale in Arizona. The Cubs open up the regular season tomorrow hosting the Milwaukee Brewers.
The White Sox rallied past the Padres 9-6 in their final spring tuneup in Arizona. The Sox start the regular season Friday in Detroit. Hear the game right here on WCMY.
The Cardinals ended their pre-season with a 7-0 rout of the Marlins in Jupiter, Florida. St. Louis’ season opener is tomorrow at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Bulls clinched a playoff berth but are falling further in the standings after getting blasted by the Bucks 127-106 at the United Center.
The Bulls are likely heading to the playoffs without their top guard Lonzo Ball. Ball underwent surgery for a slight meniscus tear in January and has had multiple setbacks in his recovery and is expected to be shut down for the rest of the season.
The Blackhawks will host the Seattle Kraken tomorrow. The Hawks have lost five in-a-row and remain second-to-last in the Central Division.
