Unemployment is down from a year ago, but up from month to month, in the latest Illinois Department of Employment Security report for this area. LaSalle County had 8.7% unemployment in January last year. It was 4.6% in December. It climbed to 6.5% in January this year. Combining LaSalle, Bureau, and Putnam counties, the rates were 7.5% in January 2021, 3.7% in December, and 6.3% in January 2022. Most of the gains were in leisure and hospitality.
