Kathey A. “Kath” Reed, 74, of Chatham, formerly of Buffalo, died on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at St. John’s Hospital.

She was born on August 2, 1947, in Ottawa, IL, the daughter of Vernon C. and Helen M. (Brown) Hadley Jr. Kath married Lee Harrison Reed on December 31, 1966, in Ottawa.

Kath attended Central Elementary School, graduated from Ottawa High School in 1965, and attended Western Illinois University. She went on to work in administration with St. John’s Hospital for 25 years. Kath was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, participating in study groups and serving as a eucharistic minister. She taught religion for 15 years and her work in the religion program earned recognition by the Bishop in Sterling, IL. Kath also had a place in her heart for the Mini O’Beirne Crisis Nursery and the Animal Protective League. She enjoyed cooking, various types of needlework, gardening, reading, and loved playing games with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Christopher Reed.

Kath is survived by her husband, Lee Reed of Chatham; daughters, Lara (Tony) Vespa of Decatur and Anne-Marie (Jim) Koehl of Cornland; seven grandchildren, Maxwell, Lily, Kathryn (Chris), Sam, Nate, Callie, and Isaac; and one great-grandson, Levi.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home- Chatham, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.

Concelebrated Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022, at St. Joseph the Worker, 700 E. Spruce, Chatham with Rev. Joseph Molloy & Rev. John Burnette, celebrants.

Cremation to be provided following ceremonies.

Private family inurnment will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
