Don’t throw out the good with the bad is the message the LaSalle County Board wants to send the Illinois legislature when it comes to rethinking police reform. When a resolution supporting rescinding the SAFE-T Act measure came up for a vote yesterday, members changed it to tell lawmakers to rethink it.
Member Brian Dose of Ottawa says some parts are good. He says keep the police training requirements and the ban on sex offenders and felons from being police officers.
A big item of contention is the law making it easier to sue police officers and file complaints against them. Dose says that’s a problem. The board members want to have a hearing on the police reform bill and have local legislators there to hear the concerns.
