Last night at the 8th grade IESA regional championships in volleyball
Seneca lost in three tough matches to Gardner in the Mazon Middle School Class 2A. Gardner advances to the Sectionals this weekend.
Wallace’s season ended after losing to Senachwine at the Putnam County Class 2A Regional Championship.
Today begins the 7th grade IESA State Tournament in Volleyball.
In Class 1A, Marquette will face St Thomas at Clinton Junior High and In the Class 2A, Seneca takes on Nokomis at Pawnee Junior High.
Tomorrow the state championships in Varsity Basketball begin at The State Farm Center in Champaign.
Yorkville Christian faces Liberty in Class 1A and Monticello versus Nashville in Class 2A.
The Semi-Finals for Class 3A and 4A will start today.

MLB owners and players have reached an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement that includes a full 162-game season. Spring Training will begin this weekend in Arizona and Florida. Games will begin next week with Opening Day of the regular season slated for April 7th. Increased minimum salaries are expected to be part of the new CBA that will be in place for five years. Other changes agreed to include a universal designated hitter and a Draft lottery. More than 200 players who remain free agents, such as Cubs Kris Bryant will be able to sign new contracts once the CBA is finalized.
The Chicago Bears are trading six-time Pro Bowler Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Bears will receive a 2022 second round pick and a sixth rounder in the 2023 NFL Draft. It’s the second time that Mack has been traded after he was acquired by Chicago from the Raiders. Mack is coming off a season that was cut short due to having foot surgery in late November.
Results from the Big Ten Conference Tournament in Men’s Basketball at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis: Northwestern lost to Iowa 112-76, Penn State won a close one over Ohio State 71-68, Michigan lost to Indiana 74-69 and Michigan State defeated Maryland 76-72.
Today in the quarter-final round, The Fighting Illini will take on Indiana, Rutgers faces Iowa, Wisconsin matches up with Michigan State and Purdue ends the night taking on Penn State.
In the ACC tournament Notre Dame lost to Virginia Tech 87-80.
The Blackhawks gave up the winning goal with just 18 seconds remaining as they lost 4-3 to the Bruins in Boston. Brandon Hagel scored twice for the Hawks who dropped three-of-four games. The Blackhawks visit the Ottawa Senators tomorrow.
The Chicago Bulls are back on the hardwood tomorrow night hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Bulls snapped their five-game losing streak with a 114-108 win in Detroit on Wednesday. The Bulls currently sit fourth in the Eastern Conference.
The Chicago Fire are headed back out on the road this weekend in the MLS. The Fire will visit D.C. United tomorrow and are still seeking their first win of the season. The Fire are 0-0-and-2 so far after a pair of scoreless draws with Miami and Orlando.
Over in the PGA, Tommy Fleetwood and Tom Hoge are on top of the leaderboard after the first round of The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Florida.
NASCAR rolls into Arizona this weekend for The Ruoff Mortgage 500 at the Phoenix Raceway on Sunday.
