Last night at the 8th grade IESA regional semi-finals in volleyball

Marquette’s season ended after losing to Cornell at the Flanagan Class 1A Regional Championship. Cornell will now head to the sectional round.

Holy Family of Oglesby lost at home in three tough matches to  Waltham in their Regional Championship.

Seneca defeated Dwight at Mazon Middle School Class 2A semi-final. Seneca will face Gardner in the Championship tonight.

 Also in Class 2A, Wallace will take on Senachwine at the Putnam County Class 2A Regional Championship ALSO tonight.

 

In the Big Ten Conference Tournament in Men’s Basketball at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Northwestern rallied to beat Nebraska 71-69. The Wildcats will now face the Iowa Hawkeyes today. Penn State defeated Minnesota 60-51 and will take on Ohio State tonight. Other matches today in the Big Ten, Michigan faces Indiana and Michigan State will take on Maryland.

Illinois, Rutgers, Wisconsin and Purdue will compete in round three against the winners from today,

Notre Dame faces Virginia Tech tonight in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

The Chicago Bulls put an end to their season-high five-game losing streak after a 114-108 win over the Pistons in Detroit.  DeMar DeRozan scored 36 points to lead the Bulls which moved to 40-and-26 overall and look to start a winning streak at home against the Cavaliers on Saturday.

 

The Blackhawks are in Boston to battle the Bruins tonight. The Hawks will then visit Ottawa on Saturday before returning home to host the Bruins on Tuesday.  The Blackhawks have split their last four games but remain second-to-last in the Central Division with just 50 points.

 

Major League Baseball is postponing another week of regular season games.  In a statement released by the league, it was announced Opening Day is moving to at least April 14th after talks stalled once again on Wednesday.  The MLB Players Association rejected three offers on an International Draft resolution, which became the latest issue in negotiations.  The league has previously announced hefty raises and additional bonuses to players to try and get the season started. 

 

Another big trade happened in the NFL, The Indianapolis Colts are trading quarterback Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders.  Multiple reports say Wentz will be heading to the Commanders for a package of draft picks that include two third-round picks.  Washington is reportedly taking on Wentz’s whole contract.

 

Over in the PGA, Round one of The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida begins today.

 

Tennis star Novak Djokovic is set to miss the BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open because he remains unvaccinated.  Djokovic won’t be allowed to enter the United States due to CDC regulations that require foreign visitors to be vaccinated to enter the country.  Djokovic has said he plans to skip events if they require the COVID-19 vaccine.
