State championship results from over the weekend in girls varsity basketball
- Brimfield won a thriller over Galena 32-31 in Class 1A.
- Quincy Notre Dame defeated Winnebago 63-56 in Class 2A.
- Carmel won the title over Nazareth Academy 43-39 in Class 3A
- Lincolnshire Stevenson won big over Barrington 55-43 in Class 4A.
Tonight at seven Ottawa High School will host the Class 3A Super Sectional in basketball with St Francis taking on Metamora in Kingman Gym. Should be an exciting high school basketball matchup.
Other Super Sectional games scheduled tonight
- Sterling High School will host Rockford Christian taking on Taylor Ridge in Class 2A.
- At Illinois State University, Yorkville Christian faces Lexington in the Class 1A.
Today begins the IESA Sectional Round for 7th grade volleyball
- Marquette travels to Oglesby to face Holy Family in Class 1A.
- Shepherd will take on their host Bolingbrook in Class 5a.
In college basketball
Illinois tied for the Big Ten regular season title after beating Iowa 74-72 in Champaign. Kofi Cockburn scored 21 points for the 17th-ranked Fighting Illini, who have won three in-a-row. Top-seeded Illinois awaits its opponent in the Big Ten tournament. The Illini will play their first game on Friday.
Northwestern beat Minnesota 75-62 to wrap up the regular-season. The Wildcats will meet Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday. In other conference tournament action, Loyola knocked off Drake 64-58 in the Missouri Valley Tournament final in St. Louis. The Ramblers are going to their second straight NCAA Tournament and Notre Dame awaits its opponent in the ACC tournament.
The Blackhawks gave up five consecutive goals in a 6-3 loss to the Lightning at home. Alex DeBrincat netted his 32nd goal of the season for the Hawks who have dropped six-of-eight. And will host Anaheim tomorrow.
The Chicago Bulls are in Philadelphia to take on the 76ers tonight. The Bulls sit at 39-and-25, which now puts them fourth in the Eastern Conference
The Chicago Fire played Orlando to a scoreless draw in their MLS home opener on Saturday at Soldier Field. The Fire are now 0-0-and-2 to begin the season and will visit D.C. United this Saturday.
Over in the PGA, Scottie Scheffler won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Florida.
Alex Bowman won the NASCAR Pennzoil 400 in Las Vegas.
