LaSalle County Parks Director Ken Henze says he wants to know if the county has the biggest Kentucky coffee tree in the state. Henze says the tree is located in Catlin Park, although it is about thirty minute hike to find.
He says he worked for a tree company for eight years, and knows how to measure a tree. He says after he measured it, it was about 103 feet.
He says the University of Illinois could come and measure the tree to determine whether it’s bigger than the biggest Kentucky coffee tree in McHenry County. But he says the tree in the park has split in half, so it might be tough to determine.
