A Mokena man charged with an Ottawa murder may get a trial date in that case next month. Thirty year old Michael Swift is also charged in Kendall County with trying to hire a hit man to kill a judge and a police officer. While Swift is talking to his lawyer and possibly negotiating for a plea deal there, LaSalle County Public Defender Tim Cappellini wants the case in Ottawa to wait.
Judge Cynthia Raccuglia scheduled a hearing for April 7th. Cappellini told her today he expects to ask for no more delays.
Swift is accused of stabbing 21-year old Grace Taylor at her apartment on the south side last April.
