Westbound Interstate 80 traffic approaching Ottawa is backed up this morning after a traffic crash that seriously hurt two people at about 6:40am. Illinois State Police estimate it will take until about 11:30 this morning to get traffic moving normally again. Alternate routes into Ottawa from the east include U.S. 6.
An Ottawa Fire Department ambulance crew asked for medical helicopters. But none were willing to send them out because of the weather. Both were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ottawa to start treatment.
The crash happened a half mile west of the Illinois 71 ramps. One vehicle went onto an embankment and hit a guardrail.
