1931 – 2022
Joan B. (Watts) Salzman, 90, of Ottawa, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Pleasant View, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Philip Potaczek, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Deer Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa. Due to current State of Illinois guidelines face coverings will be required.
Joan was born on June 12, 1931 in Peru to Joseph and Nola (Logan) Watts. She was a graduate of Ottawa Township High School, attended the University of Illinois, and then graduated from the National College of Education, where she received her Bachelors of Arts degree in education. Joan was a kindergarten teacher for 24 years. She married Harold Salzman on June 24, 1956 at Deer Park Community Church. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Marie Peterson Circle, and the Monday Club. She enjoyed canning, reading, gardening, wildlife, and nature. More than anything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two children; Tom (Jacki) Salzman and Sally (David) Mathis both of Ottawa; four grandchildren, Lindsey (Ryan) Bell, Sarah (Shane) Severson, Mathew (Erica) Mathis, and Andrew Mathis; four great grandchildren, Trevin, Ella, and Eugene Timmons and Hallie Mathis; and three step great grandchildren, Logan, Nolan, and Claire Severson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harold.
Pallbearers will be Mathew and Andrew Mathis, Lindsey Bell, Sarah Severson, Matt Mason, Corey Kreider, Nick Angus, and Austin Timmons.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Grand Ridge Fire Department or Trinity Lutheran Church.
