After a four to two vote, the Streator High School Board is allowing students to have the option to not wear a mask for now. A Sangamon County judge ruled last week that the mask mandate created by Gov. Pritzker is an overreach of government.

Although Streator High School isn’t listed in the ruling, the school board voted to follow what the judge said. Parents also showed up to speak in favor of letting their kids have the option. One parent says it was time to stop letting students suffer.

There weren’t any parents who spoke in favor of keeping the mandate at the emergency meeting. Only Interim Supt. Hank Boer and two teachers from the district spoke in favor of keeping the mandate.

Board members Mike Mast and Heidi Baker voted no.
