Norma Ostrem
1925 – 2022
Norma Jean Ostrem, 96, of Ottawa passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Pleasant View Lutheran Home in Ottawa.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 11 at Freedom Lutheran Church in Ottawa with Pastor Dana Coyle officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 10 at Mueller Funeral Home, Ottawa, and at the church one hour prior to the service, on Friday. Burial will be at Freedom Lutheran Church Cemetery, Ottawa. Facemasks are required at all indoor locations.
Norma was born December 29, 1925, in Ottawa, the daughter of Arthur and Lucile (Perry) Gottselig. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband George Maierhofer, second husband Lowell Ostrem, and brother Donald Gottselig. After being widowed from her first husband, she married Lowell on February 15, 1964, in Ottawa.
She is survived by her son, Stanley (Sampa) Ostrem; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Gottselig; one nephew, Gerry Gottselig; and, one niece, Cheryl (John) Hanson.
Growing up during the Great Depression and World War II gave Norma the resiliency she exhibited throughout her life.
After graduating from Ottawa Township High School in 1943, she was employed with Silica Sand in Ottawa for a number of years and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority (conferred as an Order of the Rose).
Norma loved spending time with her family and friends and also previously played bridge with a steady group of women for several years.
She and her husband Lowell enjoyed spending their retirement years together often going to church events and bluegrass jams.
Norma’s pleasant demeanor made her a joy to everyone she met.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Freedom Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
