Starved Rock State Park Natural Resources Coordinator Lisa Sons says bald eagles pair up for mating in November and December. In January and February, they nest. The locally residing birds are doing that now. Sometimes, they perch with the visiting birds by Starved Rock Lock and Dam.
There are also many bald eagles perched by Starved Rock Lock and Dam this time of year, because they can catch fish there. This is Eagle Watch Weekend at the state park and at the Illinois Waterway Visitors Center.
