The Marseilles Police Department says although they don’t have any jurisdiction over coyotes and other wildlife, they did release some tips from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The IDNR says a person should make themselves look big and make a lot of noise to try and scare them away.
Animal Control Officer Gary Wind says the coyotes are very common around the county and are accustomed to people. Wind says make sure the keep small pets close.
The INDR also says do not feed coyotes and try to make sure that there isn’t any unintentional food available for them to eat like bird or pet food.
