The thousands of aircraft takeoffs and landings at the Illinois Valley Regional Airport won’t be affected by 5G cell phone service. 5G and some airport approach systems use the same frequencies. The Federal Aviation Administration is concerned that interference will cause safety problems at those airports, which are in big cities. Illinois Valley Regional Airport Manager Chuck Studer says a different approach system is used in Peru. But there’ll be buffer zones with no 5G around Midway and O’Hare airports in Chicago to prevent interference.
